The Testing of Negro Intelligence

The Testing of Negro Intelligence Volume 2 by R. Travis Osborne and Frank C.J. McGurk, published in 1982

This volume demarcates data from the 1960s and early 1970s as national educational integration continued. The authors of this volume were the primary investigators of the studies that provide the data found in this text.

Building on the data sets that Audrey M. Shuey constructed during the 1950s, the large-scale studies examine the educational outcomes of elementary, junior high, and high school students. The data also includes material on university students and adult continuing education.

This study also examines data of special-needs African American individuals and the educational levels of pregnant teenagers. The authors were well known in the field of intelligence and education. The data is dense.

Modern scholarship will identify problems of bias and perceptions of patronization in the authors’ approach to the development of this area of inquiry.
